2023 Dodge Challenger Demon SRT 170

Dodge says that the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 will start at a diabolically evocative price of $96,666, which is a reference to the devil. With fees, options, and accessories, the price can go up to $120,000 or more. On March 27, people can start to place orders for the car.

Plans are only to make up to 3,000 of these cars for the U.S. and 300 for Canada, depending on how many parts are available and how well the supply chain works. That would be like how the 2018 model was made.

Dodge says that the new car will have 1,025 horsepower and 945 foot-pounds of torque on E85 ethanol blend fuel. From a rolling start, it can reach 60 mph in 1.66 seconds.

The car’s performance drops a little when it’s run on fuel with less ethanol, but it still has 900 horsepower and 810 foot-pounds of torque on common E10 fuel.

Dodge’s hellish coupe doesn’t come with many different options. A lightweight wheel package costs $11,495 and is said to make the Challenger 25 pounds lighter.

There may also be a street-tire package planned for a price that hasn’t been set. Buyers can, of course, get their own set of wheels and tires instead of being limited to what Dodge has to offer.

If someone was brave enough to ride shotgun, we would add the empty passenger seat.

Overview

The roaring 1025-hp Dodge SRT Challenger Demon 170, which was built by blood and iron in Ontario, Canada, bows down to horsepower.

The street-legal drag-strip special looks a lot like the previous Demon (which was only made for one year in 2018), but this time Dodge’s development team has done all the right things to get a four-digit horsepower number out of the top of its famous Hellcat V-8.

For full power, the steroidal supercharged 6.2-liter needs E85 gasoline, which is a 170-proof mix of ethanol and gasoline. The 170 still makes a crazy 900 horses with 91-octane gas. The 2023 Demon 170 is a wild farewell to what were already some of the craziest muscle cars in the world.

Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis wouldn’t say how much money was put into the car, which was unveiled Monday, or how much money it was expected to make.

Kuniskis said, “These cars are going out on a high note.” He said that the Demon 170 was “the new peak of factory madness.”

When asked about the car’s fuel economy, he said, “It’s terrible.” Later, though, he called the car “eco-friendly” because high-ethanol fuel burns faster and cleaner than regular gasoline. A gas-guzzler tax of $2,100 will have to be paid on the car.

The name “170” comes from a high proof of alcohol, since the car can run on ethanol fuel. With the purchase of a vehicle, each owner will also get a unique glass decanter.

What’s Different in 2024?

2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170

Dodge brings back the Demon name for 2024. It looks almost the same as the last one, but Dodge has made it even worse by giving it up to 1025 horsepower.

The Demon 170 is the last of Dodge’s “Last Call” series of seven cars. Only 3300 will be made, and only 3000 will be sold in the U.S.

The engine, the transmission, and how it works

The most devilish part of the Demon 170 is what’s under the hood. It has a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine bolted between its fenders. This engine is so much better than its predecessor that the only thing the two engines have in common is a camshaft.

The 170’s engine makes 1025 horsepower and 945 pound-feet of torque when it burns E85. If that isn’t available at the pump, 91-octane will give you 900 horses and 810 pound-feet.

Some of the upgraded and strengthened parts are in the driveline, where the driveshaft is stronger and the rear axle is bigger. Still, an eight-speed automatic takes care of gear changes, and a new and improved transmission brake adds launch settings that can be changed. The Demon 170 has 245/55R-18 Mickey Thompson ET Street R tires in front and a huge 315/50R-17 tire in the back.

Dodge says it was able to get a quarter-mile time of 8.61 seconds at 151 mph, but it had to have a prepared surface. The same goes for its claim that it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 1.66 seconds. We haven’t tried out the new Demon 170 yet, and we might never get the chance to. If we do, we’ll let you know here.

Cost of gas and MPG in the Real World

If its earth-shaking rumble didn’t give it away already, the Demon 170 is where gasoline goes to die quickly. The EPA’s estimates of how much gas it will save aren’t good.

The government says 13 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. We haven’t seen numbers this low in a while.

When they race down the local drag strip, these ratings will take another hit. Visit the EPA’s website to learn more about the Demon’s gas mileage.

Cargo, Interior, and Comfort

Cargo, Interior, and Comfort

Even though the new Demon has a lot more horsepower than any other Dodge Challenger, the interior isn’t very different from any other model. The 170 comes with one cloth driver’s seat as standard, but the one we drove had both front bucket seats covered in nappa leather, which is an extra cost.

Before, the passenger seat was a $1 add-on, so we think it will be the same this time. Each Demon will come with a commemorative set that includes a decanter in the shape of the car, coasters and whiskey cubes, rocks glasses, and other items that are specific to the car’s VIN. You can also get heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel.

Entertainment and staying in touch

Like the other Challengers, the touchscreen in the Demon is powered by the easy-to-use Uconnect system from Dodge.

Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The standard audio system for the Demon has only two speakers to save weight, but you can upgrade to Harman Kardon’s 18-speaker system.

Features for Safety and Helping the Driver

Dodge hasn’t said yet if the Demon 170 will have any technology to help the driver. People who are worried about that stuff might want to look somewhere else.

Visit the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) to learn more about how the Challenger did in crash tests.

Coverage for Warranty and Maintenance

The limited and powertrain warranties for the Demon are about average. Dodge, unlike BMW and Chevrolet, does not offer free scheduled maintenance.

  • Three years or 36,000 miles is how long the limited warranty lasts.
  • The warranty on the powertrain lasts for five years or 60,000 miles.
  • No scheduled maintenance for free

Built To Build Confidence

BUILT TO BUILD CONFIDENCE

Dodge is making the 2023 Demon SRT, its seventh limited-edition muscle car, to mark the end of production for the current Challenger and Charger. Since these cars came out more than a decade ago, Dodge has sold more than 2 million of them.

Kuniskis told CNBC, “You have to celebrate this end.” He also said that the Challenger serves as a “halo” model for the brand, drawing customers who then buy other cars. “We’re the best at being crazy.”

Active Head Restraints in the Front

Active front head restraints make it less likely that the driver and front passenger will get hurt in certain kinds of rear-end collisions.

Help for Rain Brakes

By putting a small amount of pressure on the caliper, the Rain Brake Support takes water off the brake pads. When the windshield wipers are turned on, it goes into action.

Rain Sensing Windshield Wipers

Rain-sensing windshield wipers automatically turn on when they sense water on your windshield.
